About Shear Stones
Lessa Shear is a mixed-media artist based in Rhode Island, known for her ocean-inspired artwork. Growing up, she spent countless hours collecting shells and beach combing during family trips to the coast, sparking a lifelong passion for the ocean. She has explored beaches around the world, and ultimately settled in a picturesque seaside town in Rhode Island.
Combining watercolor, gouache, ink pen, embroidery, beach stones, sea glass, shells and driftwood, Lessa creates unique pieces of art that are visually interesting, evoke emotion and spark the imagination. Her artwork transforms beach treasures into vibrant scenes, ocean creatures, flowers, plants, and landscapes. Every piece of driftwood, every stone, and every piece of sea glass has a history that we will never know, but by bringing them together a new story is created.
Being based in Rhode Island gives Lessa the opportunity to explore endless miles of beaches. She is an environmentally conscious artist and prioritizes ethical beach combing practices, carefully collecting materials while removing trash and plastic from the coastline.
Lessa’s work can be found displayed at art markets in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts, a Wellness Center in South Kingstown, artist collaborative Hotpoint Emporium in Bristol, RI and Vitamin Sea Artisan Market in Newport, RI. Her gallery exhibitions include shows at Wickford Art Association and with Local401Artists.
